Growth mindset is very closely related to self-esteem. Children’s beliefs about themselves have an effect on their success within the classroom. In our classroom, we are working on developing "growth mindsets" versus "fixed mindsets."
Some of the ways I try to promote a growth mindset in the classroom are:
1) Providing attainable challenges.
2) Giving opportunities to face obstacles.
3) Teaching and modelling good attitudes.
4) Teaching how to accept positive criticism.
5) Viewing failure as learning.
6) Providing group learning opportunities.
7) Celebrating successes and minimizing failures.
8) Providing opportunities to celebrate the successes of others.
9) Teaching perseverance and the power of "yet."
